FUTURE AGENDA 2020

While thinking what to write about this book, suddenly an idea came to my help and I’ve decided to mention some interesting and debatable ideas from the book. Here they are;
  • Less Choice: Fewer choices provide higher levels of satisfaction. (When your child has just one or two toy cars, (s)he personalizes them and they nearly become friends)
  • Virtual Authenticity: Virtual identity and physical identity are not the same thing, but by 2020 this difference will disappear. (After computer viruses, there may be human viruses in the future. It sounds entertaining.)
  • Less Energy: For us all to use less energy. (I have suspicions here. Energy may change the form and new forms energy might seem less mechanical but it doesn’t mean less energy.)
  • Food Markets: Decisions on where and what to produce will be made on a global basis not by individual   market or geography.  In the next decade, the world economics of food will change and food will change   the economics of the world. (It sounds good at the beginning but the example of the USSR makes it not appealing since you inevitably depend on some others.)
  • Slow Luxury: The luxury market buyers increasingly want ‘better not more’. (Thanks be to Allah, this crazy competition of buying what you don’t need and pretending to be in an upper-class by brands will end.)
  • Water Wars: This will be the decade that we fight wars over water not oil. (?!)
  • Commoditised Knowledge: Education will become increasingly industrialized  broken into small, repeatable tasks and thus increasingly deskilled.
