The dragonfly effect

One of the book stories “The 93- Dollar Club on Facebook” starts with the quote: “Small acts really can lead to big change”. This quotation makes me remind about some emails that circulate for helping a small child with cancer or leukemia. Usually for this type of email the people who organize it collaborate with a social media Network. In this message there is the picture of that kid in hospital with a tube in the mouth grabbing so the attention of everybody that will receive it. The message is also a simple and clear one. Please send this email to as much persons as possible in order to help Sarah for doing that transplant. Everybody that will receive this message will immediately forward it to the others, because he or she fill compassion and is so touched from this story. It means that a simple but a very sad story written in this kind of emails will engage too many persons.
This book reminds me also about the story of driver in my previous job that had cancer and he should do a surgery in Turkey. His family and he could not afford to do that intervention because it was too expensive, so the chances were fewer for him. The Human Resources department sent an email with a simple message to all the employees. In this email was asked to help him by giving money, it should started from a minimum amount of ALL 1,000 and everybody should contribute as per his wish. The institution itself would give its part as well. I remember that many employees participate with their part and there were also some of them that gave a big amount. So he went for that surgery in Turkey and now he is healthy.
Just by a simple and human action of some persons somebody life can be saved, people homes destroyed from a natural disaster can be build ….

  1. I liked the metaphor of dragonfly for the social media, and i also liked the practical and real examples that the authors give for illustrating how to achieve social change. We can say that social media finds different ways to achieve their concrerte goal which sometime grabs some free time to us.
