The main message of the book is that the root cause to many issues of modern societies is the inequality or gap between the rich and poor and not the economical level necessarily. Unequal societies "have more violence, they have higher teenage birth rates, they have more obesity, they have lower levels of trust, they have lower levels of child well-being, community life is weaker and more people are in prison," one of the authors, Richard Wilkinson mentions. To support the argument the authors of the book analyse data for 23 countries, and 50 US states. The short movie below sums very well the essence of the book. Many argue if the authors motives are pure or if they are doing communistic propaganda. The conclusion are for each one to make.
Hi! In fact during Albania's communist regime, poverty was at a high level but social relationships were stronger, bad habits were discriminated, suicide was almost unperceptive, social activities were very spread and spirit level better.
Interesting point, and to add to your statement just wanted to quote from page 5: "...the truth is that both the broken society and the broken economy resulted from the growth of inequality..."
So, the inequality leads to the developing of the societies.

Dear Artemisa,
YanıtlaSilI was reading your post about the book "Spirit Level" and I saw that we have posted the same video which makes a summary of the book in a funny way.
I also believe that inequality lead to busted society and community.
