Made to Stick

I really liked the way the authors modeled the criteria that ideas must have in order to be sticky.

For an idea to be sticky first of all it should be simple. After that it should make the audience to:

Pay attention (by making the idea unexpected)

Understand and remember it (by making the idea concrete)

Agree / believe (by making the idea credible)

Care (by making the idea emotional)

Be able to act on it (by making a story)

However, I still think that the term audience strongly forges the values of unexpectedness, concreteness, credibility and emotionality in each idea. In other words, a certain idea may be unexpected/simple etc. for a certain audience but for another it may not. Therefore it may be sticky in some circumstances and loose in some others.

In my opinion the SUCCES acronym is a prerequisite for a sticky idea but most important of all is to find a suitable audience which is likely to find the idea a SUCCES.

  1. I totally agree with you.The rules are very precisely determined steps that must be followed to make an idea stick ,but there is no guarantee of achievement just by applying them step by step.

In fact,When we think about how the theories are developed as the principles on a subject and how some deviations from them occur even while applying them very carefully, word by word, we can understand that the above result is very normal and it is valid in all fields, not just limited with the current subject. At this point, complexity and uniqueness of human beings, social values, norms play an important role to make an idea stick or not. In other words, the sciences of psychology and sociology can help us understand and interpret the reasons behind the results in a better way.

  2. Hi Sajmir,

The secret of success is to reach every audience and the Simplicity with a sticky, tangible idea is the key to it - in this way your message will be clear and understandable for every audience.

    Thanks for your post,

  3. Hi Saimir,

Some times it can be difficult to stick everyone but I think these processes help us to reach different audiences. I mean even a prof. or uneducated person or young or old people like simplicity, stories, emotions and other principles. If you do not have any specific target, I think with these principles it is possible to reach different audience.
