The Hidden Logic of Success

The story of Matthew Syed is very inspiring, considering how many accident coincidences (“right conditions”) had happened in his life so that he could become who he is: his parents, who brought table for tennis; his nearly contemporary brother, with whom he could use this table as just a game (though later it will be long hours of real practice); his teacher of physical education, who had a very special passion for table tennis; even the street where he lived, was full with successful people.

Though on my opinion, there is one ingredient missing which we know as a “talent”. Based on some definitions, the talent is:

- A personal gift or skill
- A person who possesses unusual innate ability in some field or activity

Great Managers defines the talent as “a recurring pattern of thought, feeling or behavior that can be productively applied”, “are the behaviors you find yourself doing often”.

Hence I would say that talent is ability to quick learning, and if you really enjoy the field you got talent for, and you had luck to be in the right situation (coincidences or ooprtunities happened for Matthew Syed) definitely you gonna succeed.

Plus add to this hours of practice and you will become an extraordinary genius.

To sum up there is a quote from one of the most amazing books of Brothers Strugatsky:

“...Here came people who would rather be with each other than anywhere else, who couldn’t stand any kind of Sunday, because they were bored on Sunday. They were magi, Men with a capital M, and their motto was “Monday begins on Saturday.”

So at the end, the science of success is that “Monday begins on Saturday”.

Have a nice Sunday,
Tatiana

I totally agree with you that only practice it is not enough. The talent is also important in our life in order to be an extraordinary genius
