To my opinion the truth lays somewhere in the middle, and I remember my painting teacher telling me that talent is only 25% of success the rest depends on hard work and practice.
10 000 hours can be effective for sports that require some kinds of “mechanical” skills this could be true but in other areas creativity is required and for e.g. I can’t see how 10 000 of work can make someone a creative or imaginary writer. In this case maybe the work can make someone a good writer but not exceptional or bestselling author, for this talent is needed. I don’t see even how this could work for someone that aspires to become a great singer ?
Another argument is that people tend to spend hours for things that enjoy and they are good at, so my best guess is that when you succeed since the first time you try something it must be the talent. Success at the first time makes you happy, like what you did and encourages you to try more and devote more time. To my opinion there’s nothing wrong about inspirational books and especially when the examples shown are real and famous people, it may help some people be optimistic and not give up their dreams the first time they fail
Yes, I agree with you. Success mainly depends on how much you struggle, but there also some other factors such as talent, preferences, condtions.
YanıtlaSilI am sure about that the author also is aware of hte other factors affecting the level of performance, but as hardworking is oftenly more dominant than the other factors,he emphasizes only the importance of it by ignoring the others' intentionally.
I appreciate too much the message of this book i.e. leading people to overcome their fears, encouraging people to try again and again by giving current, living examples from real life, referring to some success stories.
About creative work it goes as you have written. You can be still very good if you practise a lot but it will take a lot of struggle, much more than talented people. If you want to spend 10000 hours in one field, it is better to spend it on the field you are talented. But the problem for many people here is that some people and the society are not aware of their own talents or they don't have chance to practise it.
YanıtlaSilHi who ever u are!
YanıtlaSilI think you don't have to work hard on a field about 10.000 hours, when you may use all that effort on some thing else you may have got talent. Anyway, it depends on how much you really love what you are doing. Even it may be difficult, it does worth to struggle.
Hi Artemisa,
YanıtlaSilI agree with your last paragraph "In my opinion there’s nothing wrong about inspirational books and especially when the examples shown are real and famous people, it may help some people be optimistic and not give up their dreams the first time they fail"
There's nothing wrong to get inspiration from famous and successful people however one must be careful to measure his/her own step and not to try to fly high. I know people who have tried to imitate the lives of famous and successful people in order to be like them but they haven't. What they got instead was depression and demoralization.
P.S. That's the beauty of life after all. If everything was algorithmic (do A and B and you'll succeed) we would be called robots, not humans.

Dear Artemisa,
YanıtlaSilI agree that drawing for 10000 hours will not make you an outstanding painter unless you have an inborn talent. The example of Mozart was mentioned. I agree that his practice of playing piano made him a good musician, but not a good composer. He composed his first symphony at the age of four. The talent of a composer was given to him. Can you become the Mozart in 10000 hours of practice? I doubt.
