Predictably Irrational

Dan Ariely tries to explain the reasons behind irrational behaviours by giving many different real examples from the life. Those examples really came so strange to me although I have lived similar cases and have witnessed many similar cases around me.

When I combine what I understand from the book with the cases I lived or witnessed,I think that  the reasons behind irrational behaviours are so different by showing diversity from person to person and from time to time, almost each case is unique. For example, if the effect of a medicine changes by its price,it means that either the person doesn't have headache indeed or the cheap one really doesn't work. Another common irrational behaviour is to buy something which isn't needed may be related with a person's way of living or a very special price is offered at that time.

It is possibble to give more and more examples of irrational behaviours with different, unique reasons behind them. The reasons, I can count, might be various such as a decoy ,plenty of choices, quite slight differences between the options, psychological situation at that moment, effect of external world, our expectations, conformity of presentation of somehing with our norms,etc...

I believe in that this book, which is full of interesting examples of irrational behaviours, can certainly help me decrease number of irrationalities I will do from now on.

  1. i accept your thinking turan
some time we believe the effect of expensive medicine than the cheaper , we believe the quality of many goods because it is very expensive than others
we believe the expensive company brands than the cheaper , and we have to change our practice in this way

  2. Why are we so excited about free stuff, even if we just throw it out later? Do we convince ourselves that an expensive meal will taste better than a cheap one? And why are we motivated to act on some humanitarian disasters, but not others? We all make irrational decisions at times, but this book provides the rare opportunity to reflect on those decisions and observe the behavioral patterns underneath.
