What makes a dragonfly a suitable examples for a theory about using social networks to achieve objectives ?

A dragonfly, with his 4 wings, can fly in any direction with easyness...


In The Dragonfly Effect: Quick, Effective, and Powerful Ways To Use Social Media to Drive Social Change written by Jennifer Aaker and Andy Smith, the 4 wings become the 4 points that people must achieve to be successful :


  • FOCUS means that first of all it is important to search for a goal that can make the difference, something that can have an impact on many people, but also something that it is so concrate to be achieved .


  • Grab Attention means that it is important to find a way to make your message so interesting to be audible by many people ;


  • Engage means that it is important to make people connect with the goal and make it theirs


  • Take action means that more people you manage to get involved more likely you are eading to a movement.


This four principles can be used both for personal goals as for professional goals and, most of all, can be used by anyone that wants to use social network in a more constructive way.

The authors also talk about emotional contagion, pointing out that when someone is very positive and happy about what he is doing, and believes in it, it will be much easyer to make other people believe in the same thing.

It becomes like a ripple effect that from little, it gets bigger and bigger.

Starting from a little goal, something that can be achieved and that will be added to the other goals to make the final objective, it is important to get feedback to know if it is the good road it has been choosed.

It is important to consider that to grab attention, visual images and short videos can be very successful, they can make the difference in the final decision a person is going to do.

But most of all it must be something really believed in, because the authenticity of the feelings for the final objective, will be the thing that will move others in the direction wanted.


And looking at this video we may understand that managment,made the "dragonfly effect" work better.

  1. You really summarize the book very well without missing any important part.Beside that I totally agree with the three important points i.e.- cantagion effect, ripple effect and authenticty -you emphasize to explain the subject better.
    It is possible to see the impacts of your addtions in every field of real life.As you say, when people are happy with something, they have more desire to do it and it passes very quickly from person to person and the number of involved people reaches to a very huge figure in a short period of time. The other one is ripple effect i.e.to start by achieving small objectives which are parts of the big,final target.The last one,authenticity, is also a very crucial factor on the way to success.In other words, if your idea doesn't seem reasonable,acceptable by people,you can't involve them in your project.

    The message you gave is basic and open. It is impossible to pass him without giving anything and we can feel effect of dragonfly. Just one sentence made him noticeable and helps us to understand his feeling.
