If we consider elegance as “the quality of being beautiful and delicate in appearance” it can be a controversial issue since this quality will change from person to person, from society to society. The author of the book gives four inseparable elements of elegance: seduction, symmetry, subtraction and sustainability. I think they are very disputable. Seduction is not always in symmetry and subtraction. Sometimes asymmetric things are more attractive than symmetric (there is much prove about it in art and architecture, for example). I agree that missing parts or something so far unknown can grab people’s attention. However this missing part must be completed as a result to feel satisfaction in perfection. That’s why many people like reading detective stories. They grab your attention, you implement different assumptions, make up conclusions but still you want to know the end of the story, you don’t want to invent the end because IT IS NOT YOUR STORY. As for me perfect things are complete. Genius is in simplicity but not perfection. Perfection is unreachable, insurmountable and untouched. There is only one place to feel complete satisfaction and it surely is not here. I pity people who say” I am satisfied with my life” instead of “I am grateful for the life I have”. In my opinion to value every breath and try to do what you can this very moment is more important than to have a feeling that you have already done everything.
Elegance must be present in everything we do because when you are neat and careful in your actions and words you can lead harmonious life. This is my perception of elegance.
Dear Olga,
YanıtlaSilAs always I like your posts and generally I share most of the ideas with you. I would like to state one of your ideas that I share with you “you don’t want to invent the end because IT IS NOT YOUR STORY” Of course when I watch a movie or read a book, I want the writer to finish the story, then I can agree with the ending or comment on the contrary. If I want to imagine the rest and create my own ending, I can just stop reading it or stop watching the movie…. Anyway this is just my idea, it seems that some people like it that way. People are different, their preferences are different, that is the perfect creation of the world…
