Changing Minds

Changing Minds: The Art And Science of Changing Our Own And Other People's Minds

While hiring employees many companies make a personality tests to define a working style of potential employees and one of the key questions (or statements) in there are related to ability to change:

I always feel unprepared for change
I do not feel threatened by changes
I am sometimes intimidated by change
I find constant change very exhausting
I can persuade people to do a change if it is needed
I find it easy to adjust to changing work technologies, etc.

On my opinion this is one, among of some others, of the essential characteristics for the employer during selection of the employees, especially for managerial positions. It is important to know how they will work in the circumstances of constant change (especially for such businesses deeply involved into Technologies such as Telecommunication, Banking) and their ability to persuade others that change is necessary.

The truth is that everyone has exceptional capacity to change our mind and minds of those who are around us.

“…We can change our minds or minds of others around us…”

With the levers of change and Tipping points by Howard Gardner we may take one more step to get closer towards our success by using tips from this book, improve our ability to change and persuade others.

Sincerely,
Tatiana

  1. I totally agree with you Tatiana,

Actually you have preceded one of the main criterias that "The quick win Paradox" paper emphasized in order to build successful leaders and managers. i.e. Transition capabilities are just as important as position capabilities for leaders and managers to thrive under any circumstance.

  2. Hello Tatiana,

I agree with you and it is really one of the most important characteristics for hiring an employee. Sometimes it can be means and sometimes objective.

From different aspect, if someone has ability to persuade others, it means one step ahead of the start than others. I mean if someone has chance to have an interview, that time he can use his ability as a means for recruitment.

  4. Hi Tania,

Your comment is good but I have to say that when you read the book, it stops short of providing specific tools and techniques for applying his model for changing minds.

So, technically it’s still on us how to do it. But still would like to mention that the book is very helpful even on providing some light in the end of the tunnel.
