In Pursuit of Elegance_Why The Best Ideas Have Something Missing

I think it will be my favorite book in this semester. The topic was more interesting and also it was a bit different than the others. There are no steps we have to follow and it is not saying “do something”. Actually it is saying not to do more than you need. Maybe I liked this book for that reason.

In our business life, mostly designers and marketing people are in pursuit of elegance. I think it is unchallengeable. What about for schools?

We can think about teachers and we can realize how they affect while we are choosing the courses at the beginning of semester. If you do not have any idea about teachers, you can focus the names of the courses but at the second semester you start to focus who is teaching. Actually for me it is like this and it is about teaching method. At the first semester “New Trends and Concepts” course we discussed about 11 books and I remember a lot of things about the books. Maybe in one of your course, you talked a lot of detail information and you focused just a book If you compare the courses, at which course you wrote more information to your mind, what is your answer? I do not like suffocate by words. After sometimes it makes me bored and I cannot focus anymore.

  1. This comment seems to be a bit irrelevant with the topic in question, “The pursuit of elegance” but as a matter of fact, my understanding of it is that even teachers can use such methods in characterizing the so called “elegance” of the personality or character of the students or pupils.
It could be e successful method in trying to understand the content of the student, what he or she represents, because sometimes even teachers are strongly influenced by the external appearance of their students, thus forgetting to make an approach to observe and stare at their inner “content elegance”.

  2. Dear Burcin,

Thank you for such nice example from our daily Epoka life. For the second semester we even didn't know the name of the course yet but we knew that we will take this course because of non-ordinary teching method, though very "simple" and "elegant".
Almost every book consists of great number of different stories, which can apply in our personal and proffessional life. Even the name of every book it is a "catchy" and useful phrase by itself. My mind full of quotations and quote every necessary and not necessary momements of my life.

  3. Dear Burcin,

I was reading your post about this amazing book and also the example you brought to us for explaining it. I liked very much the comparison idea between the book and the elegant way of teaching from our professors. For example, the method of Mr. Melih Arat, asking us to express our ideas for every new book in blog post and also comment the others for their posts, is very simple and very nice. In this way we tell our opinions and we share our experiences, that might be good or bad for the others, however they should not be judged.
