Book 3: The Spirit Level

The original Book refers to countries like the USA or Izrael where it is logical that the few educated and well prepared ones rule and guide the crowds.
I want to refer to eastern countries where the number of the well educated people are far higher than in the states the book refers to. The logic makes you believe that these countries should be better in terms of social and economical parameters but the reality is totally different.
So we all have to follow the example of such rich and powerful countries ?
I do not believe we can and i my opinion we should not. Education should not be forgotten and the ways should also be different.
I would like to add more but I am afraid it may make the logical of what I just said vanish so:
The end

  1. Hi Rezart,

I liked the sentence "I do not believe we can and i my opinion we should not. Education should not be forgotten and the ways should also be different." and I agree with it.

We live in the 21st century but the current generation is being educated by the 20th century methodology, hence better preparing people for the 20th century which has already passed.

To overcome this the overall education pyramid shall be changed. For the past 2 centuries it had Math and Natural Sciences as its pinnacle but it is not bound to be like that anymore.

Math itself had Calculus as pinnacle but some other branches (Statistics for instance) are surpassing Calculus in terms of importance nowadays.

Simply put, the educational system must be flexible and reactive towards what is REALLY important and beneficial not what was considered such. so...

    The End :-)

  2. Dear Rezart,

Your point of view is right. I liked it, and I think that generelly eastern countries incomes may be equal but they are mostly undeveloped countries. We should be more optimistic about our future economy. I strongly believe that states like Japan should be taken as an example for our economy.

  3. I agree with you Rezart about the way you treat the argument and like the question:
So we all have to follow the example of such rich and powerful countries ?
I believe that in today's globalization it is a non written rule that that's how things should be done, but unfortunately history shows different reactions. Each country should tailor the future according their culture.
